2- Day Two: Venture off to Kodachrome Basin State Park and Grosvenor Arch. Kodachrome (named for the Kodak film) is a photographer’s delight. This State Park is a wonderland of rock pillars. Anciently this area was filled with thermal geysers. Eventually the geysers stopped flowing and sediment filled the pipes or tubes through which the geysers flowed. This sediment became hardened and as the surrounding layers of softer rock eroded away, these geysers of stone remained. The walking trails through this park are full of discovery. Horseback and wagon rides are also available. Grosvenor Arch is just south of Kodachrome on a well-graded road. It is a beautiful formation standing alone in this high desert. 3- Day Three: Venture up Highway 12 through the town of Escalante to Calf Creek Falls and the Hogsback section of Highway 12. Walk the gentle path to the 126 foot waterfall and see trout swimming in the creek, beaver dams at every turn and ancient Indian petroglyphs on the canyon walls. Above Calf Creek the Hogsback section of Highway 12 offers scenic views in 360 degrees, along with a heart-stopping view straight down (1,000 feet) on both sides of the beautiful paved highway. For more adventure visit the Anasazi Indian Village State Park in Boulder, or the Petrified Forest State Park in Escalante.
